What To Do While You Wait

You have been called for a purpose. Now, all you have to do is figure out what to do next.

Does this sound familiar?

I had to laugh at myself, as I listened to a podcast from Mosaic Church-LA this weekend. In the message, What Was I Thinking, Erwin McManus challenged us to stop “waiting” on the Lord to tell us what to do next.

ER said:

Instead of sitting and waiting, how about you just get busy doing something great for the world.

 If you are sitting, waiting for God to help you make a decision about what to do next, you have already made a decision. You have decided to sit and wait.

Many of us are living our lives paralyzed, waiting for God to give us something to do.

So, why don’t you do something while you are waiting? Something beautiful, something extraordinary, something courageous, something adventurous.

In fact – If you want to get God’s attention, do something so extraordinary good God has to jump in to help you.

{Author’s paraphrase}

I had to ask myself, How much time have I wasted “waiting on the Lord” when all God wanted me to do was follow Him and get busy making a difference in people’s lives?

Friends, fear is paralyzes us. We are so afraid of what we lack, we become frozen and useless to ourselves and the world around us. When we have no purpose we have a life with no meaning.

We must stop fearing what to do next and act.

This is what Jesus taught us to do.

He says, watch me and do what I do. While you are working, stay connected to me and I will tell you what to do next. I will be your strength when you are weak. I will be your wisdom when you don’t have answers. I will be your provision in your lack. I will be your confidence in your meekness. And I will be your courage that overtakes your fear.

So if you have been wondering what to do next. Follow Jesus and get busy.

    I love this..I wrote about this theme on my blog last week Surrender, Then What? But your post really clarifies the importance of not just sitting around waiting for God to do our work..I’ve done that and started getting depressed until I realized the Gospels are all about a call to action to spread the Good News..and that isn’t about sitting around like a pampered child! Thank you for this additional reminder! Loved visiting from #raralinkup today!

    Inspiring thoughts to stir us into action! It helps to have something positive to do while we wait on the Lord for the next big thing He wants to do in or through us. Waiting can feel such a passive thing to do, but waiting in faith so often means stepping out before we can see the whole pathway, There is always enough light promised for the first step we take. Thank you. Blessed to meet you and be your neighbour at the #TellHisStory link up. 🙂

      Thank you for stopping by today and blessing me with your additional thoughts. I love this line: Waiting can feel such a passive thing to do, but waiting in faith so often means stepping out before we can see the whole pathway, There is always enough light promised for the first step we take.
