What is your Superpower?

What is your superpower?

I recently saw this question on a job application. I am a Strengthsfinder coach, I am a professional in the leadership field. I teach it, I coach it and I write about it. But I still found this question hard, awkward, and well… embarrassing.

How do humility and superpower fit in the same sentence?

The truth is, good leaders have both humility and know his or her superpower.

Maybe defining the word, “superpower” will help. Superpower is a dominant gift—an attribute, skill, or ability that is stronger than the rest.

We can spend A LOT of time trying to be someone we are not.  It is a dangerous and slippery slope that keeps us stuck. Refining your strengths will be hard enough, why focus so much energy on your weaknesses? (Note: I am not talking about character here, I am talking about skill and ability.)

It’s time to STOP comparing and START being the person God created you to be! There is no one like YOU on this planet. You are unique, and the world needs you!

God gave you strengths and abilities to do good. Your strengths not only help others – they set your heart free! When we try to be someone we are not, we lose our way, our purpose and meaning in life.

Galatians 6:4-5 is always a good reminder for me.

“Don’t compare yourself with others. Just look at your own work to see if you have done anything to be proud of. You must each accept the responsibilities that are yours” (ERV).

So, tell me, what is your superpower? If you don’t know, try answer these 4 questions:

WHAT FEELS EFFORTLESS?

HOW DO YOU AMAZE OTHERS?

WHAT MAKES YOU WILLING TO SACRIFICE?

WHEN ARE YOU FEARLESS?

It’s easy to discount your strengths when they come easy to us. DON’T!

Back to the question on the application. After answering these question, I can say with certainty.

My superpower is to help you find your superpower. #everyonematters
