We do not live in a Leave It To Beaver World anymore.

Fifteen years ago, there had never been a school shooting and twelve years ago, there had never been a terrorist attack on the United States. Slavery was demolished in 1863 but has reestablished itself through the act of trafficking women and children for sex and money.

Last night, I went to a viewing of Girl Rising. It was so powerful, it is a movie I believe you need to know about.

When I was young my favorite movie was Cinderella. I dreamed of being the beautiful girl swept away by the handsome prince. Just like Cinderella and the Prince, I thought all I needed was love, a castle, and some cute glass slippers to make my happily-ever-after arrive.

Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus. It represented new beginnings, hope for a future, and the joy that there is beauty, joy, and peace after death. For many, Easter means shopping for a new dress or new clothes. After speaking of the resurrected Christ and eternal life,

Almost forty years ago, a small group of people, moved my the global poverty-ecology crisis they saw around them, joined together at the site of a Shaker Village near Harrodsburg, Kentucky to make a covenant that they would share what they had with others and work towards a world of equality and one of social justice.

Earlier this week, I read a blog by Sarah Bessey, titled, What I am into (www.sarahbessey.com) that I loved so much I felt compelled to copy it. I know Sarah wouldn’t mind either, because she is just that kind of girl!

People fall into one of two categories when they go on vacation – some believe vacation is for activity, adventure, and exercise. Others leave their tennis shoes behind, opting for a nap in a lounge chair in the sun and a good book.

Personally, I like both but one thing I always do on vacation is a lot more exercising then I do at home.

Why didn’t you tell me before now?

This is a statement my children are famous for saying. They want to know why I didn’t inform them of a haircut, doctor’s appointment or extra trumpet lesson three months in advance. They do not like surprises.

I am a teacher by nature. As a teacher, my goals are always for a heart transformed, a soul healed, or a mind stretched to new horizons. But what I have realized over time is that my way of teaching, however inspirational, is ineffective for any kind of long term change.
