What every 20 something needs to know about leading

I’m getting ready to host 53 young influencers at my house for a retreat this weekend. These young women, ages 18-29, are coming from as far as Texas and as close as next door, in pursuit of faith and purpose. Like all of us, they are asking life’s hardest questions: Why am I here? What is my purpose? Will I ever find true love? When I do find true love, how do I keep it?

This morning I was planting some flowers by the front door. I am no horticulturist but I know what I like. The Hellebore is one of my favorite outdoor plants because it blooms in the winter. Its blooms are delicate and beautiful while its roots are strong. It doesn’t need sunshine or shade. It is resilient, beautiful and most of all – deer resistant. It reminded me of the woman I want to be and the message I want to deliver to these amazing young women who will gather.

You can’t wait until all conditions are perfect and sunny.

You can’t wait until you have a title or a degree, a husband OR an invitation to the executive table. You must know how to nourish your soul when times are hard and when time are good. You must know who to turn to when your leaves start to wilt under the weight of snow and MOST of all you must be deer resistant!!

When you step out, someone will try to pluck your leaves with their teeth.

Let it go! Don’t be offended when people don’t understand you. Don’t try to be someone else.

The world needs YOU!

You, be you! God likes you that way and so do I. Angela
